MAY PRESIDENT REAGAN REST IN PEACE: But what to make of this night for the rest of us? McCain throws Huckaboo a gimme in West Virginia and then the ex preacher comes back and wins Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and as expected, his home state of Arkansas. Wonder if Mac counted on that? Note, all of those are states that a Republican usually wins in a general election.

McCain of course, continues to ride his liberal love to wins in states that the Republicans will never win in the general election. This should be telling...as Mac rolled to wins amongst the sparse Republican populations of Delaware, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Illinois. These are huge delegate wins...which are meaningless...because the GOP will get a total of zero electoral votes from these states combined. The GOP will also win zero in California...but it is significant in that the big McCain win there ends it for Romney.

Romney did win Massachussets, tiny North Dakota and Montana along with Utah and the caucus in Colorado. Only a win in California would have saved the night for him. The McHuckaboo express combo can make a claim that Romney is third overall...and that would hold some water. Fox News analyst Bill Crystal predicted Romney will pull out of the race on Thursday at the C-PAC meeting. Would not surprise me.

Bottom line, the GOP appears to be in Presidential disarray (thanks Bush-Cheney). The frontrunner cannot win where the GOP might win, the one who can win in Red State America cannot possibly win long term...and the best overall candidate just can't seem to get traction. What a McMess.

Meanwhile, Hillary stormed back to win big in California and that turns a bleak looking night into a pretty good one for her. Had she held on to Mizzou...it would have been better than that. Either way, it's still on full speed for the Democrat side. They will continue their compelling fight...while it appears that McCain will now fight it out with his own base with a nomination he secured largely with the help of folks who will NOT help him in the general election.

Somewhere tonight Chris Mattews and the NY Times and Tim Russert are smiling at the Republican results. How does THAT taste?
