In light of McCain and his "disappointment" with the New York Times...and the recent lawsuit by 38 former Duke lacrosse team members...it begs the question: "Should Duke be McCain like and simply live with their "disappointment?"

This sarcasm orinally induced circa May of 2007 when NC attorney general Roy Cooper validated innocence of Duke students and misconduct of DA Mike Nifong:

Many many lessons are floating around, a tiny fraction of which are actually valid, related to the legal fiasco surrounding Duke, Durham, North Carolina and the Blue Devil lacrosse team for the past 14 months.

And now, when there’s a spare moment not devoted to the earth shakingly crucial Imus-Rutgers affair, a few media outlets are actually discussing these lessons. (which brings us to lesson #3: the media would rather self righteously crucify Don Imus than admit how wrong they were for over a year in the Duke Lacross case.)

But back to the topic. The prevailing media wind is that we must use this case to figure out as a society how we handle a rogue prosecutor when those affected are not rich and white like the Duke families…who were able to survive this onslaught only because they were rich enough to fight back. Now, clearly there is a valid argument there. Collectively, they spent several million. So call that point lesson #9 or so. The irony is, the Duke players were in trouble precisely because they were the rich white ones in this fight…which keeps this from eligibility for lesson 1 status.

You see, in liberal justice, and certainly Durham qualifies as the state’s second most liberal city, it’s the rich white guys who are always wrong….whether they be accuser or accused. (And this is lesson #1.)

Quite often it’s the ritzy crackers who are the accuser and some un-rich minority who is the accused. The liberal knee jerk world view works real well then…..jump to the defense and all is aligned in the political-legal world as the ACLU, the poor, the defense attorney elite, the media, the klan with the tan (I’m quoting a black guy here) all line up against the prosecutors, the rich, the white and the hard nosed law and order conservative constituency. It’s real easy to tell the white hats from the black hats (pun un intended at first…then what the heck…) in cases that line up like that.

But in the Duke case, we had the delicious situation of liberals on both sides (which leads us to lesson #5, these same poor Durham neighborhoods that were on this witch hunt have been voting 90% plus for born- rich liberal white yankees educated at places like Duke for decades and that’s funny…I don’t care who you are.) But I digress. Because of the unusual configuration of the battling forces, I will allow a pass for any who mistakenly believe that lesson #9 should be lesson # 1. Easy mistake to make at first blush.

And it’s this same unusual dichotomy that arms and informs our case regarding lesson #1: “with liberal justice, the rich white guy is ALWAYS wrong.”

(In the spirit of full disclosure, I must include the caveat that the “rich white guy is always wrong UNLESS he actually IS wrong,…like say Ted Kennedy at Chappaquiddick or Sandy Burglar and the stuffed undies.)

Without #1 being true, there would be absolutely NO REASON that the normally pro defendant machine would have so quickly and blindly jumped on the pro plaintiff bandwagon. I mean, they say justice should be blind, but not THIS blind.

The normal suspects….normal in the sense that they are almost always on the defense….couldn’t WAIT to line up with the hangman’s noose. Liberal professors, liberal student groups, civil wrongs activists, liberal newspapers, liberal networks, liberal cable outlets…ALL wanted to be the first to be outraged, the first to convict and the first to be self righteous.

(It’s appropriate at this point to mention that the only media big gun to call this case a sham and Nifong a liar almost from the beginning was Dan Abrams of MSNBC….and strangley, he’s not on the air anymore. Hmmm… I understand this very cable net had a morning slot open up recently…because another rich white guy was wrong).

There is no way now and actually NEVER was a point at which there was compelling hard evidence that the accusations were correct or even plausible. There were millions of regular ordinary folks who figured this out, but strangely none of them worked in the Durham DA office or at any of the media outlets. These are simply folks who do NOT view the world through the liberal template…..folks who don’t have a default setting that says THE RICH WHITE GUY IS ALWAYS WRONG. And without that setting, one could simply NOT believe this case for more than a couple days. With the emotion and the pre concieved notions out of the way (making room only for…GASP…facts and logic)….there is no way to reach the majority conclusion without the reality of lesson # 1.

The rich white guy is ALWAYS wrong….as accuser or accused…unless he’s Ted Kennedy.
