Shock shock...McCain aid McKinnon will not fight Obama....as this site predicted days ago...
So media maven Mark McKinnon, he of "Maverick" Media Consulting (literally) will not campaign against B. Hussein Obama. Well that's just great. Actually, it is great since McKinnon has never been involved with any Republicans before his work with George W. Bush and then this year with McCain. Before that, he was a media guy for many Democrats including Ann "Ma" Richards in Texas and some other very partisan and very liberal Dems. I imagine it would rather damage his delicate sensibilities for me to have used B. Hussein Obama above. Certainly he would think I was referencing the rather striking similarities between the Illinois Senator's name and those of numerous terrorists and mass murderers..but I was simply paying homage to the American Bar Association by doing what all lawyers do...us the first initial and middle name. (Then again, I am C. Edmund Wright and not an attorney or American Bar member).
But back to McKinnon. Other than some work for Bush, he has done PR consulting for "foundations and the like." Foundations being non commercial enterprises who get their money from taxes or from donations. "The like" being non commercial enterprises that get their money from taxes or from donations. Am I spotting a trend here?
Like all in the McCain camp, this is not a guy well versed with the nuts and bolts of the free enterprise system. George Bush, John McCain, a bunch of "foundations" and a bunch of liberals. Not exactly conservative base central. While we're at it, why not the city of Berkely... heading up their PR as they fight to keep the Marines from recruiting in their corporate limits. He can also represent terrorists against water boarding....then come back and work for Republican nominee Olympia Snow in 2012. (the thought gives me the shivers)
Actually, McKinnon...and the hiring of McKinnon...represent how far out of touch with the base voters the Republican establishment is. Mr Establishment...McCain..is counting on one of the long time Democrat establishment types...McKinnon.. to run the campaign. With all due respect, tying Al Gore and nipping John Kerry by a few percentage points is not all that impressive to me and does not give McKinnon street cred...except on M Street.
The GOP hierarchy has no idea why someone is, or should be, or could be, a conservative. These are people not of American heartland...not of the free enterprise system, not of small businesses. Taking money from foundations that they took from taxes or donations to produce some PR pieces is not exactly like running a contracting business or a retail store or an insurance agency. It's inside the beltway hobnobbing and cocktail parties. Running a campaign for Ma Richards sure as heck doesn't qualify anyone about real life conservative America and how to represent them and handle PR for their interests and candidates.
So it's no surprise that McKinnon won't fight Obama. BeatJohnMcCain predicted that McCain himself won't fight Obama...not really. At least McKinnon is admitting it. McCain won't admit it. He won't fight. He'll ride off into the sunset like Bob Dole did...a gracious LOSER....who took "his turn" at losing because he was of the GOP establishment and it was "his turn."
Obama will win the Presidency. McCain will become a lobbyist (McCain-Find-Gold, you know) and McKinnon will make more money representing some liberal foundation's PR effort after Obama and the liberal congress triples the domestic budget for all liberal foundations. Won't that be fun? More fodder for moving the RNC out of Washington! LINK HERE
Do we need any more proof that the GOP should move their operations out of DC?
Tonight in the District of Columbia (that's Washington DC for those of your educated in our government schools), some 100 thousand Democrats cast votes in their Presidential primary. About 4 thousand Republicans voted.
In Virginia, which includes most of the greater Washington area, about a million Democrats casts votes. About 400 thousand Republicans voted. And in Maryland, kind of like Virginia but for some reason much more "blue statist," the count will be about 650 thousand to less than 200 thousand.
In other words, it is not safe to be a Republican, let alone a conservative, in the DC area. The culture just moves way too hard in the other direction.
And the GOP cannot represent their base as long as the entire party apparatus has to live and exist and get along in this environment. The RNC MUST be moved. TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS EXCITING IDEA--CLICK HERE
SEEMS TO BE CLASSIC INSIDER BELTWAY VERSUS OUTSIDE BELTWAY IN GOP THINKING
It is a pretty consistent trend right now. Republican conservatives on the beat McCain train are a wide cross section of folks from just about everywhere....everywhere that is but Washington D.C. Led by talk show hosts and pundits, this would include Rush, Hannity, Ann Coulter, Boortz, Laura Ingraham and their callers, readers, followers in "fly over country." It also includes James Dobson, who in a refreshing twist has actually decided to investigate McCain's conservative cred with respect to family issues in addition to the very windy road the Straight Talk Express has travelled. (memo to Dr. Richard Land...you should "get out more.")
Conversely, the royal elitist in the GOP who are lecturing this great unwashed population on the fact that they should, among other things, "just calm down," are predictably all part of the Inside the Beltway crowd. This would include Bob Dole, who retired just in time for his wife to get a Senate seat...making the Dole family the longest term residents of D.C. this side of the Lincoln Memorial. Talk about being "on the dole." Throw in Bill Bennett, who continues to erode in his principals the longer he hangs around this media-political culture, serial campaigner Mark McKinnon, beltway pundits like Krystal and Barnes and a long littany of Jurassic Park Congress-a-sauruses still in office or in town as lobbyists.
These are the folks who are not just supporting McCain...but this is the crowd patronizing the anti McCain movement and trying to marginalize us. They think we need to calm down, shut up, be a nice little Republican and jump on board and be grateful for the opportunity.
What they don't realize is that this is far more than a normal primary spat. This is not just the prelude to a grand coming together cum-bah-yah (not being an anti war lib, I have no idea how to spell that) moment. A grand KMA moment maybe. But this inside the beltway crowd is totally out of touch with this thought process and the emotion behind it.
What they don't understand, in addition to what having a real job feels like, is the fact that we are capital C conservative...but small r republican. Without the principals, what's the point. A big government liberal is a big government liberal and the "R" on a registration card doesn't mean much to us.
BOUNS: just because I have to say it again...Mort Kondracke is an idiot. Last night he was going thru all kinds of angst trying to see how McCain could get the Republican base while still appealing to moderates. Like so many, he just doesn't remember that Reagan did it....by bringing THEM TO HIM and not vise versa. And sheesh...Kondracke is certainly OLD enough to remember that. How bout upping the omega 3's there Mort.
WELL...WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM WEST BY GOD VIRGINIA? IT'S BYRD COUNTRY.
Which makes it very unsafe for anyone with a real job...or real teeth. West Virginny...the home of Robert Byrd and trillions in pork spending, is a culture dependent on the tit of the federal government for just about everything. I really don't think they would have any idea how to carve out a free enterprise living there anymore. (And the CIA is located there...gives you the warm fuzzies, don't it?)
Which makes it prime territory for Democrats...and for Huckabee and McCain. Even so, it took a combined effort to defeat the only GOP candidate with any understanding of the economy in the WV Caucuses held today.
And how do we know this so early you ask? Because only a tad over a thousand folks were involved. We think this is about all natives of the state who aren't part of the political machine of Democrat (and former KLAN GRAND WIZARD) Robert Byrd. Romney won the first round, but all of the McCain supporters jumped to Huckaboo and Huck won the next round and the caucus. Which means a win for McCain defacto.
And the Huckabee campaign continues to put forth the ridiculous notion that he is not in cahoots with McCain. C'mon preacher....isn't there something in that good book of your about lyin? Check it out. Old Testament. Golden Rule. Amen and pass the plate!
HOT OFF PRESS!! McCAIN internal campaign memo found
Senator, here are some Talking points definitions for your quick review. You may want to discard these after you get the nomination:
REPUBLICAN: that's the party we are in.
DEMOCRAT: that's the OTHER party. (pass these first two along to Schwarzeneggar office also)
TAX CUT: revolutionary idea supported by Ronald Reagan, JFK, and used to be supported by Jack Kemp.
WATER BOARDING: (skip the subject)
RUSH LIMBAUGH: talk show host with more listeners than you have ever had voters.
FOX NEWS: cable news network preferred by Republican base.
REPUBLICAN BASE: large group of folks who are generally needed to win elections. They tend to be what is known as "conservative."
CONSERVATIVE: strange notion based on belief in the genius of the American people and not the American government. They also tend to believe in water boarding.
REAL JOBS: not sure what these are, but we believe that most of the conservative base has one or more of these.
CONSTITUTION: little bothersome document that you violated with your McCain Feingold campaign reform bill. Skip the subject.
STRAIGHT TALK; yeah, right. LOL>
TOP TEN REASONS NOT TO NOMINATE MCCAIN
10: Chris Matthews wants him to win the nomination.(now why do you suppose that is?)
9: He was NO WHERE to be found in support of Bush in the 2000 FL aftermath of the election. (afterall, a Bush win meant 8 years before he could run)
8: McCain thinks "Private Sector" is someone he knew in the military.
7: Campaign Finance Reform (CFR) did the opposite of what was intended, and is unconstitutional, but McCain is proud of it.
6: McCain is against water boarding, despite the fact it does work and is constitutional.
5: Tim Russert wants him to win the nomination. (see item 10)
4: He is embarrassed by conservative judges when they "wear it on their sleeves." (that means if they really mean it.)
3: Did I mention the New York Times endorsement?
2: He spearheaded the "Gang of 14" that kept good judges off the bench.(the best thing he could do to advance liberalism)
...and the number one reason NOT to nominated John McCain is:
1: John Kerry seriously thought about picking him as his running mate in 2004 and McCain WOULD HAVE ACCEPTED. (enuff said).
MCCAIN CAMP unable to process issue polls properly:
The McCainiacs say he is the man for the nomination because the American people favor Democrats on the issues. Well consider this folks:
A: Maybe the polls say that because the Dems act like Dems and the Republicans act like Dems...so the public who wants conservative principals don't show up as supporting the GOP ideas.
B: Or it could be, that the American public educated in government schools, say they favor the Democrats but have no idea that they live their lives much more consistent with the Republican principals.
Sheesh....what happened to believing in yourself and trying to convince others WE ARE RIGHT? WHAT WOULD REAGAN DO?
MEMO to Mitt, Rudy: how to handle the Hanoi Hilton issue and the so-called "Mavericks's courage."
OK, we have this flaming liberal-moderate roaming around threatening to take the Republican nomination. He claims (when convenient) a conservative record he is "proud of." (The New York Times is proud of it too, by the way). And he seems un-touchable....because of an act of heroism performed some 40 years ago in a Vietnamese prison known as "The Hanoi Hilton." (not to be confused with the Paris Hilton).
So how do we fight this guy in light of the Hanoi Hilton? If I were handling communications and strategy for Mitt or Rudy I would do it this way:
"You know, we all owe a debt of gratitude for the real courage and heroism Senator McCain demonstrated 40 years ago in Viet Nam. It was astounding and took an incredible amount of internal fortitude. It took real courage. And in light of the ability to demonstrate REAL courage, I am confounded why the Senator is so intent on accepting credit for having courage when he fights against our principals and some of our best leaders in Washington. As we all know, it takes absolutely NO courage to be against conservative principals in Washington. With the media culture and entrenched beaucracy in Washington, being against what we stand for IS THE EASY WAY OUT. It takes NO courage. What takes courage is to do what Ronald Reagan did...and that was stand strong in the face of the criticism. And he never got credit for being "courageous" though he certainly was. He never got credit for being "a maverick" though he was.
"So Senator McCain. If you want...it's your right to fight against our ideas. And I guess it's your right to take credit for being a Maverick and for being courageous while doing so. But I'm not going to let you get away with it. Your cutting the legs out from some of our best ideas and best principals and best people in Washington is simply the EASY way out for you...and gotten you much attention from a media that clearly does not have our best interests in mind. You showed true courage 40 years ago. Do you have the courage now to stand up for our principals and risk your buddy buddy relationship with people like the New York Times and the political media class? We'd like to see it."
...or something like that. Someone from Mitt or Rudy's campaign (if there is one left) will have to have the courage to attack this issue SOON.
El Rushbo explains potentially not voting in general....
And Rush's logic on this was right on the money...and agrees exactly with BEATJOHNMCCAIN.COM's reasoning....as expressed in "Electability.." and "Republic lurches" entries. And that is this: a McCain Presidency would be very much like a Democrat administration....which would do a lot of damage to the country. And if that damage is going to be done....it is not smart to have those problems being blamed on Republicans and by extension, conservatism.
Hello Mitt....Rudy....Anyone remember the Keating 5?
This one really seems like it is sitting high on a tee....a fabulous chance to simultaneously demonstrate why John McCain is really a Democrat, why he does NOT talk straight, give the public some insight into the housing and mortgage crunch, rub the media's nose in the fact that Saint John isn't so perfect and advance one's own Presidential aspirations all at the same time. And all by telling the truth.
It's a little piece of our history called "The Keating Five." It speaks to the S and L crisis in the 1980s, when lenders went belly up due to faulty lending practices related to real estate. (sound familiar?) The Keating 5 were members of congress complicit with the faulty lending and appraisal practices that cost the tax payers billions to bail out the S and L's. (the old joke was: "buy a toaster and we'll throw in an S and L.")
The Keating Five of course was four Democrats and, uh, John McCain. Once again, McCain is out on a limb with a bunch of Democrats. Right where he is most comfortable.
Shhh..don't tell McCain a stimulus is like a tax cut.....
Lot of talk going around about the "stimulus package" that congress and the President are going to work through together in warp speed for our benefit. It'll be interesting to see if the welfare statists on the Dem side will work with what remains of free market capitalists on the GOP side and get anything done. Then it will be interesting to see if John McCain will subvert it, like he does most initiatives that might in some way help GWB. Since it's an election year and all folks up in DC now are by definition incumbents, they'll probably get something done.
It will likely be a combination of "dropping cash from helicopters" and some tax cut work likely related to accelerated depreciation schedules. (If you don't know what that means, you likely went to a government school and don't own a business that creates jobs.) This is all good....if the conservatives play it right for November's election.
Even cash from helicopters....as obviously pandering as it is...really is a tax cut of sorts. And it will be nice to have Democrats on record as saying that "tax cuts work." Of course, it would be nice if McCain would admit that tax cuts work. Now, there is one problem here. There are about 40% of the American adult population that do not pay any Federal taxes now (also known as the Democratic base) so it's gonna be tricky to give an automatic tax refund check to them without some real loose language. Viva the "earned income tax credit" which of course is neither earned, relates not to income, and is not a tax credit...but what the hell...it is typical liberal speak. Assuming they'll use more lib speak to get it done, it will get done.
On the depreciation side, this can really spur businesses to buy equipment and vehicles and perhaps even real estate related assets like plants and factorys. This is definitely pro business, and will create jobs and tax revenues and create a sense of positive momentum....perhaps the thing the markets need the most. It also makes us kind of nervous that perhaps the McCain or Huckabee campaigns will get wind of these pro business aspects and immediately demagogue the issue. Who needs Obama when you have these two?
Now, with some continued easing of the Fed rate (which will bring down mortgage costs and help support home prices)...e might get a soup that gets us through this.
And if we do....the GOP had better HARP on the underlying message here. TAX CUTS WORK.
...oh, and someone send this memo to John McCain.
McCainanomics....are we having fun yet?
Here is commentary you won't see anywhere else. This...today....the last couple months....IS a glimpse into the future of a McCain administration. THIS is McCainanomics. How so? TWO major reasons:
A: Can you say Keating Five? Does anyone remember the Keating Five? (does the Romney or Giuliani campaign remember the Keating Five?) The Keating 5 were 5 corrupt members of congress whose hands were slapped for their roles in the S and L crisis in the 80s. What was the crisis about? Phony monopoly money real esate loans. Sound familiar? Well, it should. BTW...the Keating 5? Four Democrats and an obscure Arizonan named John McCain. That's right....Mr. Straight Talk you know.
B: Energy prices out of control? Yes. Main reason? The misguided green movement in this country that insures our dependence on foreign oil. Insures our need to actually refine GASOLINE offshore and ship it in. Won't let us drill the gulf (but it will let OTHER nations drill our coast and sell us that oil) and won't let us drill Anwar. It won't let us develop nuclear power. In other words, everything the green movement does makes supply and demand work against us with energy prices.
Of course, the good news is that supply and demand will swing back when the greenies destroy our economy and we don't demand much any more. (and that's part of their plan too....).
Who is the chief Greenie among top Republicans? You got it....JOHN MCCAIN. And welcome today to McCainanomics. HOW DOES THAT TASTE?
MLK Day Special: MLK more conservative than McCain
Yes, it's true....The Reverend MLK was more conservative at his core than John McCain. How you say? Take the timeless statement MLK is famous for...which is also the underlying belief of everything he did for civil rights. His "dream" was that one day we would be judged "by the content of our character" as opposed to the "color of our skin."
Friends, that is the quintessential CONSERVATIVE doctrinal statement. It is brilliant, honorable, and totally counter to what the modern day "Klan with the tan" would have govern our society...where I have a nightmare that we will be "quota'd according to the color of our skin and sexual psychoses...and our character or abilities will not have diddly squat to do with it." MLK's dream is much more in line with conservatve principals than anything the so called civil rights movement is doing today.
Now, to McCain. McCain has taken away some of our First Amendment Rights (CFR). McCain does not want us to be able to water board terrorists...in spite of the fact that it works, is NOT dangerous...and oh by the way...did I mention they were TERRORISTS?! McCain does not believe that cutting taxes will increase government revenues (tho JFK and Reagan believed it and proved it)so he voted against the Bush tax cuts (before he was for them I think). McCain and his gang of 14 stood in the way of Bush getting his judges confirmed with classic DC maneuvering. McCain gets up every day dreaming of getting in front of a TV camera to slam conservatives. McCain thinks that the quickest way to energy independence (and the resulting economic advantages) is by going green. And on and on it goes.
So you tell me....who is the conservative? Martin Luther King....or John McCain? (Hint, it ain't the lilly white Arizona Senator....)
